Final
Playoff game for Railroaders.
Oilers
6, Railroaders 5. The
Oilers advance to the final round of the Playoffs after
coming back to defeat the Railroaders 6-5. Owensboro
got an early 1-0 lead scoring in the 1st inning off 2
hits and 1 error. Fulton came back in the bottom of the
3rd scoring 3 runs off 2 hits and 3 walks. Owensboro
closed the gap in the 4th with 1 run off 2 hits to make
the score 3-2 in favor of Fulton. In the top of the 5th,
with a lead off walk, Owensboro Maykel Makorum hit a 2
RBI homerun to give Owensboro the lead again. In the
same inning, the Oilers tacked on 2 more runs on 2 more
hits to bring the score to 6-3. The Railroaders came
back in the 7th to put up 2 more runs on 2 hits and 1
Oilers error, but with the bases loaded and 1 out,
reliever Jon Herendeen struck out the next 2 Fulton
batters to preserve the lead. Fulton again threaten to
tie the game in the bottom of the 9th with a man in
scoring position on 2nd, but again failed to get a hit
to bring him in. Fulton stranded 12 men on base while
Owensboro left 10. Winning the game was starter Royce
Duncan who went 6 1/3 innings striking out 6, giving up
6 hits and 6 walks. Jon Herendeen picks up the save with
6 strikeouts in 2 2/3 innings, walking 3, giving up only
1 hit and no runs allowed. Railroader starter Zach
Buxman take the loss for Fulton going only 4+ innings
allowing 5 runs on 6 hits. The Railroaders post season
play end with their 2nd loss in round 2. The Oilers

Round
2, Game 1, July 29
Oilers
take first game 5-3 over Railroaders. The
Owensboro Oilers won Tuesday night's first game of a
best-of-three series against the Fulton Railroaders
by a 5-3 score. The Railroaders took an early lead in
the top of the 2nd inning when J.D. Ashbrook hit a
2-RBI home run over the left field wall, scoring Stuart
Meinhart ahead of him. Fulton added a run in the top of
the 3rd inning. Cory McCullick led off with a double,
then scored as Hunter Dawson bunted, and an errant
throw by Oilers starter Kyle Switalski put Dawson
at third with none out. Switalski bore down and retired
the next three hitters on two strike outs and a ground
out. The Oilers got back into the game with a run
in the bottom of the 4th inning. Pete Tountas singled
with one out, and advanced to second on a wild pitch.
Justin Ritchhart singled Tountas over to third.
Ritchhart stole second, drawing an errant throw that
escaped into center field as Tountas came home. The
Railroaders loaded the bases with two outs in the top
of the 5th, but a fly ball out ended their inning. Owensboro
took the lead by breaking out for four runs in the bottom
of the 7th inning. John Feltner (walked) and Royle
"Royal" Beach (bunt single) both scored on a
2-RBI double by Kevin O'Hair. Joe Grinstead reached on a
bunt single, and Maykel "Makorum" Makorem
followed with a single that brought in O'Hair and chased
Fulton starter Jacob Donze with nobody out. Facing
Railroader reliever Nathan Marlowe, Tom Freeman
sacrifice bunted, positioning Grinstead at third base to
score on a RBI sacrifice fly from Haskel Fink. Swistaki
gets the win, pitching 7 innings and holding
Fulton to just their three early runs on five hits, two
walks, and 13 Ks. Russell Logsdon pitched a scoreless 8th
inning to set up closer Jon Herendeen's three-stike out
save in the 9th inning. Donze takes the loss. The
Oiler player of the game is Kyle Switalski for his
fine effort on the mound. Kevin O'Hair gets
honorable mention for his clutch game-tying double. Game box scores

Railroaders
2, Bobcats 1.
In the only Kitty League action on Friday, and in a
short 5 1/2 inning complete game called for rain, the
Railroaders edged past the Bobcats with a score of
2-1. Both scheduled games in Farmington and Union
City were postponed due the rain and lightning that
managed to stay away long enough for Zach Buxman to get
his 3rd win on the season. The win moves the Railroaders
up another half game ahead on the Oilers and the
Greyhounds. As light rain fell in Fulton, the Bobcats
and Railroaders were able to start and continue play
with several rain free periods throughout the 5 1/2
innings. In the top of 5th, Marion managed to score
their only run before Buxman, who was rushing his team
against the approaching storm, got a called 3rd strike
with 2 outs to secure a complete game. The sky's opened
up and the lightning show began and the officials
called the game after a 30 minute delay. The Railroaders
got 5 hits in 4 innings with Louie Haseltine going 2 for
2 including a double. The Bobcats came up with 3
hits. Starter Chris Buckman takes the loss for Marion,
pitching 3 innings. Game box scores Click

The
Railroaders and Bobcats complete their 2 game series on
Saturday in the final regular season game and "Fan
Appreciation Night" at Lohaus Field, the
"Yard". The race for 2nd seed in the
post season playoffs is extremely tight between 3 teams
bidding for the spot. Rained out Union City and
Owensboro will now have to complete a doubleheader on
Saturday before positions in the standings become more
clear.

Railroaders
overtake Pirates in last inning with Dramatic Style.
The
Railroaders evened the 2 game series on Thursday by
overtaking the Pirates in the final inning of the game.
The Tradewater pitching and defense kept the
Railroaders' bats in check throughout much of the game.
Trailing 2-3 in the bottom of the 9th with 2 outs and 1
man on, Railroader Hunter Dawson propelled Fulton past
the Pirates by jumping on the first pitch from
Tradewater reliever Justin Long and hit a 2 RBI walk off
homerun. The Railroaders only got 4 hits off 4 Pirate
pitchers, but finally got their key hit from Dawson who
went 2 or 4 on the evening. The Pirates' 3 runs came off
7 hits as they stranded 10 on base. Good defensive play
by Fulton prevented more runs from scoring. Jimmy Ryan
picked up the win in relief for Fulton and Justin Long
takes the loss. Game box scores Click

The
Pennant winning Pirates' loss moves the 2nd place
Railroaders a full game ahead of the Oilers who did not
play their doubleheader with the Firebirds due to rain
in Farmington. The tight race for 2nd seed is yet to be
decided with several games left along with 3 Owensboro
make-up games in question, one of them with the
Railroaders. Fulton now host the Marion Bobcats for the
2 final regular season games starting Friday. The
Bobcats have won 5 straight now after sweeping the
Greyhounds 2 game in Union City.

Pirates
take 1st of 2 games from Railroaders 5-1. The
Tradewater Pirates clinched the regular season pennant
on Wednesday by beating the Fulton Railroaders 5-1. The
Railroaders oddly enough end up leading in 2nd place by
a half game in league standings by virtue of the Oilers
losing both their doubleheader games to the Firebirds,
and the Bobcats beating the Greyhounds. Tradewater
produced their 5 runs on 10 hits and stranded 9 more on
base. Several outstanding defensive plays by the
Railroaders kept the Pirates low run production low,
including 2 men shot down at home from the outfield in
the 5th inning. On the other hand, lack of timely hits
by Fulton prevented them from coming back. Twice the
Railroaders had the bases loaded and failed to get a run
across home. The Railroaders picked up only 1 unearned
run and had 5 hits leaving 10 men on base. Four
Tradewater pitchers combined to collect 13 strikeouts
with starter Jon Moore going 5 innings to get the win.
Jacob Donze took the loss throwing for 6 innings giving
up 8 hits, 4 runs and 4 walks. The two team meet and go
at it again on Thursday in Fulton to complete their
regular season series. Game box scores Click

Greyhounds
8, Railroaders 2 . A
good pitching performance by Union City's Drew Hays kept
the Greyhounds on the winning track towards another
victory over the Fulton Railroaders. Hays threw
scoreless ball for 6 innings, giving up 3 hits, walking
4 and striking out 7. The Greyhound offense attacked
early and often throughout the game, racking up an 8-0
lead until the bottom of the 9th. Union City's hitters
knock out Railroader starter Zach Buxman after only 2
/2/3 inning with 6 hits, 5 walks and 5 earned runs. A
Tyler Acker solo homerun in the 5th and a Justin Acker 2
RBI homer in the 6th came at the expense of Railroader
reliever Tyler Hall and finalized Union City's 8 run
score. The Railroaders finally got things going in the
bottom of the 9th to spoil the shutout by picking up 2
runs off the 3rd Greyhound pitcher, but too little, too
late. The win pulls Union City to within a half
game behind Fulton who remains tied with Owensboro in
2nd place. The 1st place Tradewater Pirates extend
their lead by 6 with their win over the Oilers on
Saturday.

Greyhounds
out run Railroaders 7-5 . The
Railroader pitching served up 15 hits and 7 earned runs
in their loss on Friday to the Greyhounds. While
Fulton's defense kept Union City's run production low,
the Railroader offensive could not repeat last night performance
of power hitting and could only muster 6 hits on the
evening. Union City's mound effort took 4 pitchers
to stop several Railroader rallies and resulted in
Fulton stranding 12 men on base. Starter Brad
Lawrence got the win only throwing 3+ innings before
leaving in the 4th with an apparent injury.
Spencer Clifft was the last Union City pitcher and went
1 2/3 innings with a 2 run lead to pick up his 12th
league leading save on the season. Taking the loss for
Fulton was Kevin Kirksey going for 5 1/3 innings
allowing 11 hits and 6 runs. The win gives the
Greyhounds a 5-4 lead on their season series with the
Railroaders, the final regular season contest between
the two teams is on Saturday in Fulton. Fulton moves to
5 games back of the 1st place Pirates, and they remain
tied in 2nd with the Oilers who also lost on Friday to
the Pirates. The Greyhounds move up only a game and a
half behind the Railroaders in 3rd place.

Railroaders
outgun Greyhounds 18-12. In
the first of a three game series, the Railroaders and
Greyhounds combined for a total 34 hits; to include 2
homeruns by Fulton's Cory McCullick for 5 RBI's and
Union City's Logan Hostetler a 2 run shot along with a
solo homerun from Drew Hayes. The Greyhounds started off
the scoring with 3 runs in the 1st inning with the
Railroaders answering with 2. The Hounds added another
run in the 2nd and Fulton responded with 2 in the bottom
half to tie the score 4-4. In the bottom of the 3rd, the
Railroaders unloaded 9 hits to score 9, sending 14
batters to the plate. The Greyhounds came back in the
4th with 2 runs. In the 6th both sides scored 1 each to
make the score 14-7. Not quitting, Union City added
another 2 in the 7th and closed within 5 and held Fulton
in check until the bottom of the 8th when the
Railroaders tacked on 4 more runs to their final 18
total. The Greyhounds fought back in the 9th with 3 runs
before a fielder's choice ground out ended the game.
Pitching for both teams lacked the ability to stop the
bats. Railroader starter and winner Kyle Barnett went 7
innings giving up 12 hits, 8 earned runs, striking out 1
and hitting 5 batters. Losing pitcher Miles Scribner did
not fair any better going only 2 2/3 innings giving up
11 runs on 9 hits and 3 men walked. The two teams face
off again on Friday for the 2 of 3 series in Fulton. Game box scores Click

Railroaders
keep pace with win. On
Tuesday night, the

over the Bobcats. After losing the first of 3 in Marion,
Fulton took the second game to remain 3 1/2 behind
leading Tradewater who also won over Farmington
Owensboro beat Union City and remains in 2nd place just
ahead of Fulton by 1 1/2 games.
The
Railroaders got a complete 9 innings shutout from Jacob
Donze who was impressive on the the evening by never
allowing more than 4 batters per half inning of play. He
allowed only 3 hits, 1 walk and struck out 8 while the
defense turned up 2 double plays in support. Stuart
Meinhart lead the offensive going 3 of 5, all doubles,
and produced 6 RBI's. See KIT League website homepage

KIT
League website summary: The
strikeout helped Chad Adcock keep Fulton in check through six
innings after he gave up an early 2-0 lead Tuesday, but the well
went dry in the seventh when the Railroaders sent seven batters to
the plate to tack on three more runs en route to a 9-0 victory at
Marion. Fulton's win just one night after falling victim to Scott
Cashman's game-winning single in the Marion's last at-bat snapped
the Bobcats' first three-game winning streak of the year and
handed Adcock (0-2) his first loss as a starter. On Stuart
Meinhart's six RBI and a complete game two-hitter from Jacob Donze
(6-2, 2.63 ERA), Fulton kept pace with Tradewater and Owensboro in
the hunt for the KIT League title. Fulton is only 3.5 games behind
first-place Tradewater and two behind Owensboro for second
place.
Tuesday's
victory at Gordon B. Guess Field was decided early for the
Railroaders as Adcock stumbled out of the gate, allowing the first
two batters of the night to reach on a single and a walk. Both
would eventually score in the inning, the only runs either team
would allow through the first six innings. Adcock would get out of
the first by leaving the last two batters standing at the plate
mystified on called third strikes. Using his unconventional
side-arm delivery, the "K" would remain the
right-hander's best friend on the night, accounting for 9 of the
20 outs he recorded in six and two-third innings. But strikeout
abandoned Adcock in the seventh when Fulton loaded the bases with
a single, hit batter and walk, setting up a three-run double by
Meinhart. That would be the last batter Adcock would face. Ethan
Utley was brought in to get the final out of the seventh inning
and would continue into the eighth. After getting the first two
batters on routine infield grounders, 19-year-old Utley finished
his night much like Adcock – allowing the next four batters to
reach before Bobby Woods was brought in to get the final out of
the eighth. Before that happened, however, Meinhart would add two
more to his RBI total with a double to center field.
Meantime, Donze kept the Bobcats off the scoreboard for the fifth
time this season. The only hits the 6-1 lefty would give up were
two singles to Jacob Martin – an infield bouncer in the seventh
and a line drive to center in the ninth. In fact, Donze allowed
only four runners on the entire night.Meinhart was the hitting
star for the Railroaders, recording six of the team's eight RBI.
Elliot Frey accounted for the other two RBI, while the
Railroaders' other run scored on a first-inning passed ball
allowed Adam Enloe.
For the Bobcats, Lucas Cramsey reached for the 16th consecutive
game when he was hit by a pitch in the second inning. His 11-game
hitting streak was ended against Fulton Monday, but the first
baseman has reached base in every game since the second game of a
doubleheader June 21 at Farmington. Bryce Law (2-2, 1.78) will
start for Marion Wednesday in the rubber match of the three-game
series

lose 4th straight game. On
Monday, the Bobcats beat the Railroaders
3-2 in the first of three games in Marion. In
a scoreless game until the 8th inning, the Railroaders
were first to put up 2 runs on 1 hit and 2 Bobcats
errors. Marion came back in the bottom of the
9th to win
its third game in row with a walk-off single by Scott
Cashman, the second win for the Bobcats in their final
at-bat in as many games. Fulton was held to only 2 hits
and committed 3 errors to help Marion win. Picking up
the win for the Bobcats was Kyle Medley and Nathan
Marlowe takes the loss in relief for the Railroaders. Fulton
remains in third place now 3 1/2 games back of the
league leading Tradewater Pirates who won their game
over the Firebirds. Second place Owensboro loss to the
Union City who is now just a half game behind the
Railroaders in fourth place.

Oilers
6, Railroaders 5 (Friday,
July 11).
The Owensboro Oilers won Friday night's game with the
visiting Fulton Railroaders by the score of 6 to 5. The
story early was great pitching. Oilers starter Ryan
Harper threw 5 innings of one-hit baseball, but
Railroader's starter Cory White's first 5.33 innings
were no-hit ball. The goose eggs came to an abrupt end
in the top of the 6th inning when the Railroaders
offense came to life against Oilers reliever Russell
Logsdon. Cory McCullick led off with a triple, and
scored when Hunter Dawson followed with a RBI single.
The next batter, Elliot Frey hit a 2-RBI home run ver
the wall in leftcenterfield. One out later J.D. Ashbrook
doubled, and with two out Allen Bolden hit Fulton's
second 2-RBI home run of the inning. The third out came
after another Oilers pitching change. The Railroaders
led 5-0 at that point. The Oilers recorded their first
hit in the bottom of the 6th inning. Oilers
reliever Derek "Devers" Dever held Fulton
scoreless in the top of the 7th inning. The Oilers got
back into the game in their half of the 7th. Maykel "Makorum"
Makorem led off with a walk. Tom Freeman followed
with another walk. One out later Haskel Fink
reached on a two-base error that allowd Mokorem to
score, put Freeman at third, and moved Fink to
second. John Feltner RBI-singled to score Freeman, and
Royle "Royal" Beach RBI-singled, plating Fink.
Railroaders reliever Nathan Marlowe came in to
record two strike outs, ending the inning. The score
remained 5-3 as the Oilers moved into the bottom of the 8th
inning. Pete Tountas led off with a double, and Makorem
followed with a walk. The next batter Freeman executed
a bunt down the third base line. The pitcher fielded
the ball and chose to throw to first. Freeman
reached base ahead of the throw, which passed wide
left of first base and rolled deep into right field.
Tountas and Makorem scored easily, as Freeman headed for
third. The ball was relayed to the second baseman, who
attempted to throw Freeman out at third. That throw
was also errant, and Freeman ran for home. The throw
to the plate was not in time. The Oilers went in order
following that sequence of events, but emerged with
a 6-5 lead. Oilers closer John Herendeen came on to
work the top of the 9th. Pinch-hitter Kevin Kirksey
started off by reaching on an error. One out later,
McCullick walked. Then Herendeen speared a liner off the
bat of Dawson, and double-played McCullick trying to get
back to first base. Dever picks up the win, Herendeen
secures a save. Marlowe gets the loss for the
Railroaders. Game box scores Click

Oilers
shutout Railroaders 2-0.
The Owensboro Oilers won Thursday night's game against
the visiting Fulton Railroaders by a 2-0 score. The
Oilers scored first in the bottom of the 1st inning.
With one out, Kevin O'Hair executed a bunt single. He
advanced to second on a throwing error, then scored
when Anthony Gliffee smacked a RBI ground-rule double
under the centerfield fence. The score remained 1-0
until the bottom of the 6th inning. With two out, Joe
Grinstead parked a solo RBI home run over the
rightfield wall. The pitching of Oilers starter John
Carbonell, Patrick Crider in relief, and closer Jon
Herendeen made the two runs stand up. The mound staff
notched 13 Ks and allowed just three hits in
the game. Carbonell went seven innings, fanned 9 and
walked 1 for the win. The Railroaders threatened in the
top of the 7th, loading the bases against Crider with no
outs. Then Crider got a 1-2-3 double play, and followed
that up with a strike out to end the inning -- without a
run crossing the plate. Jon Herendeen worked a perfect
top of the 9th for another save. Game box scores Click

Errors
again plaque the Railroaders.
For the second time in the 3 game series, the Pirates
took advantage of 2 Railroader errors in the first
inning to gain an early 2-0 lead. The Pirates added 4
more runs in the 3rd including a 3 RBI homer from
Richard Atwood. In the 4th, Pirate Tanner Hall tacked
one run with a solo homerun off Railroader pitcher Tyler
Hall, his brother. Top of the 6th, Tradewater added
another run from a single, 2 walks and a Hit-by-pitch to
give Tradewater an 8-0 lead. Tradewater ace pitcher
George Hebert (7-0 with 7 starts) kept the Railroaders
in check through 5 innings, sometimes throwing 88 mph
fast balls. In the bottom of the 6th, JD Ashbrook lead
off and jump on the first pitch to hit a solo homerun,
the first homerun allowed by Hebert this season. Hebert
burned the next 2 batters on strikeouts, and then the
Railroaders took off with a 3 hits and 3 Pirate errors
to score another run and load the bases. Fulton's Elliot
Frey step to the plate and hit a grand slam homer to
bring the Railroaders to within 2 runs. In the top of
the 7th, again the Pirates came up with 1 run on another
Fulton error. Fulton answered in the bottom of the
inning with 1 run when Allen Bolden hit his first pitch
and produced a third Railroader home run that the Pirate
defense didn't bother to move on. With the score 9-7,
Pirates starter Hebert was finished, throwing 128
pitches. Tradewater put up 1 more run in the 9th off 1
hit and Fulton again threaten in the bottom of inning
getting men on 2nd and 3rd with 1 out, but Pirate
reliever Eric Faint closed out the game forcing 2 fly
outs. George Hebert picked up his 7th win, best in the
league and Faint a save. Tyler Hall takes the loss

7 scored on him. Game box scores Click

Railroaders contributed to the win with only 1 error and
holding 9 Pirates on base. Heads up and aggressive base
running kept the runs coming in. Winning the game
was starter Jacob Donze going 7 innings allowing 6 hits

Pirates
come out ahead on Railroader defensive errors. In
a somewhat ugly but exciting game on Monday, the Pirates
took the first of 3 games from the Railroaders with a
score of 8-7. Both teams got 7 hits and 1 homerun each,
but errors plagued the Railroaders who committed 5 total
costing them 3 runs early in the game. The Pirates
struggled also giving up 2 runs from 1 of 2 errors
total, but the 1 run difference was enough to give
Fulton the short end of the stick. Tradewater lead
off the scoring in the 1st with 2 runs, with the
Railroaders answering on the bottom of the inning with 2
of their own. Tradewater increased their lead with
another run in the 4th and 3 more in the 5th, all
unanswered by Fulton. Finally in the 8th, the
Railroaders manufactured 3 runs on 2 walks, a single and
an error to close the score to 5-6. The Pirates came
back in the 9th with a 2 run homerun from Payne Spence.
The Railroaders battle back in the bottom of the 9th
with a Stuart Meinhart 2RBI homerun to bring Fulton
again to within 1 of Tradewater. With 2 outs and 2 men
on, Pirate’s reliever Logan Bawcom and Railroaders DH
Allen Bolden battle a full count for 7 pitches before a
called 3rd strike ended the game with the fans hotly
contesting the call. Good pitching performances
from both teams with the win going to Don Pugliese for

Railroaders
smash Firebirds 23-4.
The
Fulton Railroaders scored in every inning played on Sunday
amassing 23 runs with 21 hits. As in Saturday's game, the
Railroaders used big hits to overpower the Firebirds. Four
homeruns hit by Kevin Kirksey, Steven Bayko, Hunter Dawson, and
Stuart Meinhar added up to 7 RBIs. There were also 3 doubles on
the evening from Lee Kimbell, J.D. Ashbrook and Kevin Kirksey.
