Railroaders 6, Hoppers 5.  (July 31, 2013) Railroaders win the Post Season Championship.  (Game summary from Hopkinsville) The Fulton Railroaders battled in the third and deciding game of the Ohio Valley League championship series, winning the final game 6-5 in Hopkinsville. Fulton won both of its championship series games on the road.

     Fulton also won the 2011 OVL tournament championship and the 2008 regular-season title of the OVL’s predecessor, the KIT League.

     Fulton got on the scoreboard first with three runs in the first inning when Michael Diaz reached on a fielder’s error and Matt Skrzypiec brought him in with a two-run blast over the left-field fence. Ramon Valdez made it back-to-back jacks with a solo shot over the right-field fence to give the Railroaders an early 3-0 lead.

     Hoptown got back two of those runs in the bottom half of the inning when Trevor Lowe led off with a double, went to third on a flyout and scored on a single by Brandon Powell. Powell went to second on a single by Brad Sevenish, went to third on a walk by Seth Larue and scored on a single by Derek Ferch to trim the Fulton lead to 3-2. Fulton halted a potential threat with an inning-ending double play with a flyout to left and the throw to home nailing Sevenish at the plate.

     Fulton scored again in the top of the third inning when Michael Diaz led off with a single, stole second, went to third on a single by Ramon Valdez and scored on a single by Hunter Owen, moving Valdez to second. Diaz went to third on a fielder’s choice and scored on a single by Kyle Simmons to extend the Railroaders’ lead to 5-2.

     The Hoppers scored in the bottom of the fifth inning when Brandon Boggetto and Zac Carter led off with walks. Boggetto scored on a double by Trevor Lowe, and Carter scored on a sacrifice fly to narrow Fulton’s lead to 5-4.

     Hoptown tied the game in the bottom of the sixth when Derek Ferch led off with a single, went to second on a sacrifice bunt and scored on a triple by Zac Carter, knotting the game at 5-5.

     The Railroaders retook the lead when Cody Burton led off with a walk, went to second on a sacrifice bunt and scored on a single by Matt Skrzypiec to make the difference in the 6-5 win.

     Fulton was led at the plate by Matt Skrzypiec, who went 2-for-4 with home run, a run scored and three runs batted in; Ramon Valdez, who went 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs and an RBI; and Hunter Owen, who went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Michael Diaz scored twice for the Railroaders.

     For Hoptown, Trevor Lowe went 2-for-5 with two doubles, a run and an RBI, and Derek Ferch went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.

     On the mound, Isaac Behme went the distance to bring home the championship with 120 pitches, allowing five runs on seven hits, striking out three and walking three.

     For the Hoppers, Cole Isom took the loss in relief, allowing one run on two hits, striking out six and walking two in five innings. Jake Bell started for Hoptown, allowing five runs (four earned) on six hits, striking out three and walking one in three innings. Railroaders 7, Hoppers 5.  (July 30, 2013)  In 13 innings. ( From Hopkinsville)  It took 13 innings and almost 4 hours, but game 2 of the Championship Series proved to be anything but boring.  The Railroaders got it started early in the first inning.  Cody Burton led off with a single, then found his way home off a couple bad throws from Hoptown. Michael Diaz scored, and Tyler Douglas was batted home by a Kyle Simmon’s single. The Hoppers put a couple runs up in the bottom of the first. Trevor reached home on a wild pitch and John Beary was brought home off a single from Brandon Powell. The Railroaders led after the first , 3-2. 

     The Railroaders struck again in the fourth inning after Kyle Simmons doubled, was batted forward to third off a Colton Simbeck single, then was brought home off a sacrifice fly from Garrett O’Neill. Hoptown saw a little light in the bottom of the sixth when John Beary was batted home from a Brandon Powell double. In the bottom of the ninth The Hoppers tied it with Geordie Carlson scoring off a single by Derek Ferch, and the game went into extra innings. 

     The Railroaders scored for the first time in eight innings with Skrzpiec taking home off a throwing error by Hoptown’s catcher in the top of the twelfth. The Hoppers answered again in the bottom of the twelfth, but Fulton scored two more runs in the thirteenth to put the game away and come up with the victory, 7-5.  

     Garrett Ring had a great night on the mound for the Railroaders, striking out 11 and walking 4. Thomas Huddleston got the win for Fulton with 4 strikeouts and only 1 earned run. Craig Caufield suffered the loss for Hoptown.  Box scores Click Here.

Hoppers 11, Railroaders 8.  (July 29, 2013)  The Hoppers scored nine unanswered runs in final three innings to come from behind and beat the Railroaders in Fulton. Hoptown now leads the final best of three championship series by 1-0, forcing the Railroaders to win the final two games in Hopkinsville in order to take the post season title.

     The Railroaders jumped to a early 5-0 lead after the first and second innings, scoring four in the first and one in the second.

     The Hoppers got on the board in the third inning with a 2 RBI homerun by John Beary.

     Fulton put up three more runs in the fourth inning. Homeruns by Ramon Valdez for 2 RBI and a Taylor Douglas solo homer gave the Railroaders an 8-2 lead on Hoptown. 

     The Hoppers cut into the lead in the seventh scoring four runs, then took the lead in the eighth banging out four more runs to make it 10-8 in their favor. Hoptown added another run the ninth inning for the final 11-8 score.

     The Hoppers had 10 hits, 3 errors and left 8 men on base.  The Railroaders totaled 16 hits, 2 errors and stranded 10 runners.

     Kyle Barbee earned the win in relief pitching 2 2/3 scoreless innings and was the pitcher of record when the Hoppers took the lead in the eighth. Jake Bell finished the final 1 1/3 innings for a save.

     Fulton's reliever Caleb Shelly takes the loss pitching the final 1 2/3 innings giving up the go ahead and final 3 runs scored by Hoptown.

Railroaders 5, Bobcats 2.  (July 27, 2013)  The Railroaders will continue to the final third and championship round of the playoffs after beating back the Bobcats on Saturday. The defeat sends the Bobcats home for the year after finishing last in the regular season but rebounding and advancing one round in post season play. As in 2012, the Railroaders and Hoppers will once again face off for the Post Season Champion title. Fulton will host game one of the best of three series on Monday, July 29.

     The Railroaders took a 1-0 lead over the Bobcats in the bottom of the second inning. With the bases loaded, Taylor Douglas scored from third off a RBI single by Cody Burton.

     Top of the fourth inning, the Bobcats used a Railroaders error and a homerun from Jarrett Rice for two RBI to take a 2-1 lead. 

     Fulton tied the game at 2-2 in the fifth when Matt Skrzpiec walked, advanced to third and scored as Kyle Simmons reached on a fielder's choice with a force out at second. The Railroaders put up two more in the seventh with a RBI double by Ramon Valdez and a Hunter Owen RBI single. Cody Burton added his second RBI in the eighth to complete the final 5-2 score.

     Fulton starter John Lollar pitched for six innings leaving the game tied at two. Lollar allowed only one earned run, one walk and struck out seven. Jake Shadix gets the win pitching two innings giving up two hits, no runs or walks, and issued three strikeouts. Caleb Shelly takes a save for finishing the ninth, and struck out two of the three batters faced.

     Marion starter Trevor Guthrie threw for 4 innings leaving the Bobcats with a one run lead.  Luke MacDonald completed the last four innings and is tagged for the loss allowing four earned runs from the mound.  Box scores Click Here.

Railroaders 9, Bobcats 0.  (July 26, 2013)  (From Marion)  After advancing to the second round of the playoffs for the second year in a row, the Bobcats dropped Game 1 of the best-of-three Ohio Valley League semi-finals. Fulton blanked Marion 9-0 at Guess Field on Friday, forcing the Bobcats to win Saturday and Sunday at the Railroaders to advance to the league championship series for the first time in the team's six-year history.  Box scores Click Here.

2013 OVL Standings

Four Railroaders selected as OVL Leaders.  (July 25, 2013). With the completion of the 2013 regular season, the OVL has selected the top players in 10 categories based on their performance in the 45 game season. Fulton is proud to have four players in four categories among the best in the league. They are:

• Colton Simbeck got the most homerun title with 9 total for the season. 

• Garrett Ring was the strikeout king with a total of 56 on the year.

• John Lollar best win/loss percentage at 100% going 4-0 for the season.

• Caleb Shelley topped the league with his 9 saves.

Qualifying factors for these titles required 126+ plate appearances for hitters and 36+ innings pitched for the pitchers. The title of "Most Saves" is exempt from the innings pitched qualifying factor. Go to the OVL website to see a complete list of the all top leaders in the league. Congrats to these players and all the Railroaders for a well played regular season in 2013.

Pirates 8, Railroaders 7.  (July 24, 2013)  (From Madisonville)  The Madisonville Tradewater Pirates rallied with two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to defeat the Fulton Railroaders, 8-7. Taylor Burr picked up the win for Madisonville, and Taylor Douglas suffered the loss for the Railroaders. The official OVL box score is available Here.

     Madisonville got the scoring started with two runs in the bottom of the second inning when Alfredo Bohorquez tripled off Fulton starter Michael Sillyman, driving in Robert Veltre and Jeremy Hyde. Madisonville added another run in the fifth when Joe Tipton scored on a bases-loaded ground ball by Matt Sheneman.

      Fulton erupted for four runs in the top of the sixth, with the big blast coming on a three-run home run by Colton Simbeck off Pirate starter Jack Coleman. Sean Cunningham drove in one run earlier in the inning on a single. Fulton added another run in the seventh and two more in the eighth and held a 7-3 lead heading into the bottom of the eighth inning.

     Matt Sheneman led off the inning with a single. Robert Veltre followed by reaching on a fielder’s choice, with Veltre advancing to second on an error. Jeremy Hyde tripled, scoring Sheneman and Veltre, and then was promptly driven in by an Austin Shives single.

     After retiring the Railroaders 1-2-3 in the top of the ninth, the Pirates got right back on the warpath. After Dathan Prewett hit a fly ball, Garrett Emling drew a walk. Matt Sheneman followed and drew a walk. A passed ball then allowed the base runners to advance to second and third, respectively. Robert Veltre singles, driving in Emling and tying the ballgame at 7-7. Jeremy Hyde was intentionally walked to load the bases with one out. Austin Shives struck out swinging, setting the stage for Gooch Greer to draw a bases-loaded, full count walk to end the ballgame.

     Madisonville finishes with the regular season with a record of 25-19, good for third place in the final standings. The Railroaders took second place in the standings with a 27-17 overall record, 5.5 games behind first place Hoptown (32-11).  Box scores Click Here.

Railroaders 4, Bobcats 0 - game 1.  (July 23, 2013)  In 7 innings. The Railroaders' doubleheader sweep over the Bobcats on Tuesday clinches Fulton's second place standing for the 2013 regular season. The Railroaders take 2nd seed for the Post Season Playoffs with a bye from the single game Round 1 on Thursday. Fulton will begin Round 2 (best of 3 series) on Friday at the winner of Round One, Madisonville or Marion who are the now # 3 and # 6 seeds for post season play. The next home game for the Railroaders will be on Saturday, Game 2 of Round 2  

     The Railroaders finish off the regular season on Wednesday this week in Madisonville against the Pirates, the outcome will not affect the standings for either team.  

     In game one of Tuesday's doubleheader, both teams where held scoreless through two and half innings. In the bottom of the 3rd, Fulton took a 1-0 lead when Taylor Stoulp led off with single, reached third base on a hit-and-run sacrifice by Cody Burton, and score on a RBI single by Michael Diaz.  

     The shutout continued for the Bobcats and the Railroaders topped off their total score in the 6th inning.  Taylor Douglas singled, advanced to third and scored from a Hunter Owen RBI single.  Owen later scored on a Bobcat error. A third run for the inning came from a second RBI single by Michael Diaz driving in Garret O'Neill who was hit by a pitch, advanced on the error and stole 3rd base.

     Winning pitcher and starter John Lollar threw for the full 7 innings.  Lollar gave up only one hit and walk, and struck out 6 at the plate. Taking the loss for Marion was Jackson Miles who completed a full 6 innings. Miles also had 6 strikeouts, he walked 2, allowed 8 hits and was pinned for 4 runs, only one earned.  Box scores Click Here.

Railroaders 8, Bobcats 4 - game 2.  (July 23, 2013)  In 7 innings. For game two on the evening, both teams were better at the plate. The Bobcats led off the scoring in the first inning getting one run across.  Cody Brown walked to start the game, was advanced to third off single and a ground out, then scored from a Tyler Bonaventure RBI single.

     The Railroaders answered in the bottom of the first with 7 big runs. Both Ramon Valdez and Taylor Stoulp each had 3 RBI homers to highlight the inning.  The Railroaders hit six of their total 8 game hits in the first inning alone. 

     Marion put up another run in the second inning with Joe Tourville reaching on a double, going to third on a wild pitch, and scoring on a ground out RBI.

     Fulton added their final run in third.  Colton Simbeck was hit by pitch, stole second, then made home on a Bobcat error.

     The Bobcats clawed back in the 6th and 7th with one run in each inning. Tyler Bonaventrue hit a solo home run, and Brandon Waltman singled for a RBI driving in Joe Tourville who had reached on a singled. 

     Tyler Saltsman earned the win going 7 full innings, allowing 6 hits, 4 earned runs, 2 walks and had 9 strikeouts.  Bobcat starter Blake Thomas takes the loss for 2 2/3 innings of work giving up 7 hits, 8 runs (6 earned), 3 walks and struck out 2 batters. Hoppers 3, Railroaders 2.  (July 20, 2013)  (From Hopkinsville) The Hoptown Hoppers claimed the rights to Regular Season Champions for the second year in a row as they beat out the Fulton Railroaders 3-2 Saturday night. Kyle Barbee had the start for the Hoppers and held the Railroaders to no hits through six innings.

     The Hoppers scored first in the bottom of the fourth inning off of a John Beary double and a sacrifice ground out by Seth Larue. They scored again in the fifth as Brandon Boggetto walked, stole second and third base, and was batted into home by a sac fly from Derek Ferch.

     The Railroaders evened the score in the seventh inning off of a ground rule double from Garrett O’Neill and a single from Taylor Stoulp.

     The Hoppers sealed the deal in the eighth inning with Trevor Lowe scoring off of a error. Riley Sanderson got the win for the Hoppers and Craig Caufield grabbed the save. Jake Shadix suffered the loss for the Railroaders.  Box scores Click Here.

Railroaders 7, Bombers 6.  (July 19, 2013)  The Railroaders pull it out to win in the bottom of the 9th inning with a pair of homeruns to beat the Bombers.

     The Railroaders took an early 2-0 lead after the first inning only to have the Bombers tie the game with 2 runs in the 3rd inning.  Fulton regained the lead in the 4th with 2 more runs scored.  The Bombers scored a single run in the 6th and 7th innings to tie the game agin, then took over the lead in the 8th scoring 2 two to make it 6-4 in favor of DC.

     Bottom of the 9th Ramon Valdez walked to lead off.  After a fly out, Kyle Simmons came to plate and hit the first homerun for 2 RBI to tie it up.  Taylor Douglas, who had came into game to play first base and then moved to mound, stepped up and blasted a walk-off homer to win the game for Fulton.

     Kyle Simmons lead the offense for Fulton going 2 for 5, 3 RBI and one score.  Taylor Douglas was 2 of 3 with his game winning RBI homer and had a double.  For the Bombers, Shain Showers was best at the plate with 2 for 3, 2 RBI and scored once off a solo homerun.

      Fulton sent five pitchers to the mound.  Starter Colin Hatch went for 5 1/3 innings leaving the game with the Railroaders in the lead but gets no decision.  Taylor Douglas earned the win on the mound throwing the 9th inning.  

      Dubois County reliever Clint Chestnut takes the loss for the Bombers pitching the last 1 2/3 innings giving up the lead in the bottom of the 9th. 

      The regular season series between the two teams is now complete with the Railroaders taking it 5-4 games over the Bombers.  Box scores Click Here.

Railroaders 12, Pirates 9.  (July 18, 2013)  (From Madisonville)  Looking to inch even closer to that second first-round bye spot in next week’s Ohio Valley League playoffs, the Madisonville Tradewater Pirates fell off the pace Thursday night thanks to the Fulton Railroaders importing their home park’s home-run advantage to Elmer Kelley Stadium.

     Homers by Colton Simbeck and Taylor Douglas in the first four innings gave the Railroaders a big lead the Pirates couldn’t overcome, as Fulton won 12-9 to increase their second-place lead to 2.5 games.

     “Those three runs proved to be the difference in the game,” Pirates manager Steve Fowler said. “We didn’t get the timely hits we needed.”

     Tradewater scored four runs in the ninth to put the tying run on deck with two outs, but Joe Tipton’s groundout finally ended the 3 1/2-hour affair. Falling short was theme of the night: the Pirates had gotten back to within 5-4 in the fifth after a 5-1 deficit, only to fall back down by the tune of 12-5 by the time they were down to their last three outs.

     “These guys aren’t ready to quit,” Fowler said. 

     With Fulton down 1-0 on a Matt Sheneman RBI double, Simbeck led off the third with a solo shot to left center field. Douglas gave the Railroaders the lead for good on a one-out, two-run homer to make it 3-1 in the fourth, a lead that topped out at 5-1 in the fifth when Hunter Owen took advantage of an inning-extending error and two walks to single in two runs.

     Tradewater roused itself in the bottom of the frame, as Garrett Emling doubled in a run and Alfredo Bohorquez’s sacrifice fly RBI netted two runs when the throw to the infield following the catch went out of play on the third-base side.

     But just when they had gotten the deficit down to a run at 5-4, the Pirates hit a wall. Robert Veltre flew out to left to end the fifth, and Fulton took back one of those runs back in the sixth on a Mark Skrzypiec RBI single.

     Tradewater loaded the bases with three straight two-out base runners in the bottom of the stanza, but stranded them when Dathan Prewett’s bloop into shallow center was caught.

     Fulton then put the game away in the seventh, taking advantage of a Bohorquez throwing error to second on a fielder’s choice. Owen, the next batter, made it a four-RBI night and an 8-4 game on his two-RBI double. Five batters later, Owen came home on Michael Diaz’s single into left.

     Emling homered to bring the gap back to 9-5, but Ramon Valdez put the Railroaders in double-digits, run-wise, with his eighth-inning RBI triple, kicking off a three-spot. Emling singled in a run in the ninth, scoring on an error, with the Pirates’ final runs plating on a double play and a subsequent wild pitch.

     Fulton ups its mark to 24-15, while the Pirates slip to 22-17. The Pirates play at league-leading Hoptown tonight.  Box scores Click Here.

Pirates 5, Railroaders 1.  (July 17, 2013)  The Pirates came out on top to win over the Railroaders in extra innings. Third place Madisonville gained one game on second place Fulton, now only 1 /12 games behind.

     Both teams remained scoreless through five innings of play.  The Pirates score first in the 5th inning using one of three hits and a costly error for a one unearned run lead.  The Railroaders answered in the bottom of the 6th inning to tie the game with one unearned run of their own. 

     Scoring was held in check through the 9th inning.  Top of the 10th with two outs, the Pirates got a man aboard on another Railroader error with the runner finally scoring off the game winning RBI single by Joe Tipton. Two more hits produced three additional runs to give Tradewater a 5-1 lead and the final score.

     The Railroaders stranded 13 runners on base and produced 7 hits, the Pirates left 8 men on base and had 9 total hits.  Both teams committed 2 errors each.

     Tradewater starter Tyler Thomas threw for 6 innings allowing 7 hits, one unearned run, 3 walks, and had 3 strikeouts.  Taylor Burr pitched one inning in relief and Samuel Gilbert completed the final 3 innings and takes the win for Madisonville.

     Fulton's starter Garrett Ring pitched a strong game for 8 full innings giving up 5 hits, one unearned run, 2 walks, and struck out 13 batters.  Ring left the game tied and Ryan Skoubo pitched for 1 2/3 innings and pinned for 4 runs (3 earned) with 3 hits, one walk and 2 strikeouts, and was tagged for the loss.  Sean Cunningham closed out the game with the final out.

Railroaders 10, Bobcats 5.  (July 16, 2013)  The Railroader came back from trailing early to beat the Bobcats.  The Bobcats took a 3-0 lead through the first 2 innings of play. The Railroaders scored single runs in the 3rd and 5th innings.

     Top of the 7th innings, a bases loaded walk in run and a Taylor Douglas 2 RBI double gave Fulton a 5-3 lead. The Railroaders added 2 more run in the 8th innings with the Bobcats answering with one run to make it a 7-4 game. 

     The Railroaders extended their lead in the 9th with a 3 RBI home run off the bat of Colton Simbeck, his league leading 7th on the season. The Bobcats put up one more run in the bottom of the inning for the final 10-6 score.

     Starter John Lollar gets the win for 7 innings pitched for Fulton. He gave up 8 hits, 3 unearned runs, 2 walks, and had 8 strikeouts. David Herrera took the loss for Marion.  Box scores Click Here.

Railroaders 8, Pirates 4.  (July 15, 2013)  The Railroaders picked up a half game in the standing winning over the Pirates 8-4 on Monday. Fulton is now 3 1/2 games behind first place Hoptown and 3 games ahead of third place Madisonville.

     Both teams remained scoreless through 4 1/2 innings until the Railroaders broke out in the bottom of the 5th with five runs on four hits and one Pirate error.  A Matt Skrzpiec 2 RBI double and a Ramon Valdez 2 run homer highlighted the half inning of play.

     The Pirates answer in the top of the 6th inning with a Ty Broady 3 RBI homerun to make the score 5-3 still in Fulton's favor.

     The Railroaders regained their five run lead in the 7th inning.  A RBI single by Michael Diaz, sacrifice fly by Matt Skrzpiec and a RBI double by Taylor Douglas gave Fulton an 8-3 edge.

     Madisonville got their final run in the 9th inning from a solo homerun by Alfredo Bohorquez, but it was too little to late.

     Fulton's starter Brandon Diaz earned the win pitching 5 2/3 innings. Diaz pitched perfect ball through 5 innings, retiring the sides until the top of 6th, giving up three hits and the 3 RBI homer.  He struck out 7 and walked 3 batters. Jake Shadix was called in for relief and finished the final 3 1/3 innings for a Save.  Shadix gave up 3 hits, one earned run, walked no one and had 3 strikeouts. 

     Mason Roof takes the loss for Tradewater throwing for 6 innings allowing 6 hits, 5 runs (4 earned), one walk and strikeouts 4 at the plate. Taylor Burr completed the final 2 innings and tagged for 5 hits, 3 runs and 2 walks with no strikeouts.

Railroaders 4, Oilers 2.  (July 13, 2013)  (From Owensboro)  The Owensboro Oilers were overcome in a loss at home Saturday night to the visiting Fulton Railroaders. The final score was 4-2 in Fulton's favor.
    Owensboro scored first with one run in the bottom of the 1st inning. Leadoff hitter Tyler Tichenor walked, and was sacrificed over to second base. Tichenor stole third base and scored on a two-out RBI triple from Hunter Newman.
    The 1-0 Oilers lead held up until the Railroaders scored one run in the top of the 6th inning. That run came by way of a solo RBI home run from Colton Simbeck  Fulton took the lead with two runs in the top of the 7th inning. Ramon Valdez led off with a walk. He came all the way around to score as Taylor Douglas followed with a RBI double. One out later a RBI single by Kyle Simmons scored Douglas. The Railroaders added one more run in the top of the 8th inning. With one away, Michael Diaz singled. Consecutive walks to following batters loaded the bases. Diaz scored from third on an error that put Douglas on base before a double play ended the frame. The Railroader advantage was 4 to 1.
    Owensboro managed to rally for one more run in the bottom of the 9th inning. Newman led of with a walk. Austin Edge and Dalton West singled back to back to load the bases. Newman scored as Logan Leverett grounded into a double play, then a strikeout ended the game.

Railroaders 5, Oilers 2.  (July 12, 2013)  The Railroaders' victory over the Oilers on Friday resumes their pace on first place Hoptown, remaining 3 1/2 games behind the Hoppers who won over the DC Bombers.  Owensboro slipped one game further at 6 games back, and now tied with Madisonville in third as the Pirates win beating up the Bobcats.

     Fulton scored three runs in the first inning; one from Oiler error and balk followed by a two RBI homerun by Ramon Valdez.  Both teams remained scoreless through the sixth inning.

     Top of the seventh; the Oilers finally closed to within one after Hunter Newman lead off with a double and Ian Foegi hit a two run homerun.  The Railroaders answered and added two more runs in the bottom half of the seventh.  Kyle Simmons doubled to start the inning, batted to third and scored on a wild pitch.  Taylor Douglas added another with a sacrifice fly scoring Hunter Owen on third who had singled and advance on two wild pitches. The scoring completed at 5-2.

     Starter Colin Hatch earned his 3rd win going 7 innings allowing 6 hits, 2 earned runs, 3 walks and striking out 9 at the plate. Sean Cunningham threw the eighth and Caleb Shelley finished the ninth picking up his 7th Save on the season.

     Shane Weedman takes the loss and pitched a good 6 innings, giving up 5 hits, tagged for 5 runs (one unearned), walked 2 and had 8 strikeouts.  Jason Jones completed the final two innings for Owensboro.

Hoppers 9, Railroaders 8.  (July 11, 2013)  (From Hopkinsville)  A grand slam home run in the bottom of the eighth inning was just enough to give homestanding Hoptown the 9-8 win over Fulton.

     Fulton led off the game with a run in the top of the first inning when Cody Burton led off and got hit by a pitch. He stole second and took third on the errant catcher’s throw, scoring on a wild pitch to give the Railroaders an early 1-0 lead.

     Fulton scored again in the top of the second when Taylor Douglas reached with a walk, Kyle Simmons was hit by a pitch and Hunter Owen reached on a fielder’s choice. Douglas scored on a groundout, giving the Railroaders a 2-0 lead.

     Fulton scored two runs in the third inning when Matt Skrzypiec was hit by a pitch, went to second on a walk to Michael Sillyman and scored on a single by Garret O’Neill, moving Sillyman to second. Taylor Douglas walked to load the bases and Sillyman scored on a groundout to give the Railroaders a 4-0 lead.

     Hoptown got both runs back in the bottom of the third inning when Zac Carter led off with a single and scored on a two-run shot by Mitch Huckabay to cut the Fulton lead to 4-2.

     Hoptown took the lead in the bottom of the fifth when Trevor Lowe led off with a single and went to second on a sac bunt. Mitch Huckabay walked, and Lowe scored on a two-error play in John Beary’s at-bat, moving Huckabay to third. Huckabay scored on a bunt single by Bead Sevenish, and Brandon Powell’s single scored Beary to give the Hoppers a 5-4 lead.

     Fulton responded in the top of the sixth inning when Kyle Simmons led off with a single and went to third when Hunter Owen reached on a fielder’s choice. Cody Burton’s single scored Simmons, and Owen scored on a passed ball to give the Railroaders a 6-5 lead.

     Fulton extended its lead in the eighth inning when Hunter Owen was hit by a pitch and went to second on a sac bunt. Michael Diaz reached on a two-base error, scoring Owen, and Diaz scored on a double by Ramon Valdez to give the Railroaders an 8-5 lead.

     Hoptown retook the lead in the bottom of the eighth when Brandon Powell led off with a single and Seth Larue and Brandon Boggetto each walked to load the bases. Trevor Lowe then pounded a grand slam home run over the left-field wall to put the Hoppers ahead 9-8.

     Hoptown was led at the plate by Trevor Lowe, who went 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored and four runs batted in; Mitch Huckabay, who went 2-for-3 with a home run, two runs and two RBIs; and Brandon Powell, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs.

     Fulton was led by Ramon Valdez, who went 2-for-4 with a double, a run and an RBI, and Kyle Simmons, who went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Cody Burton had two RBIs for the Railroaders.

     Kyle Barbee got the win for the Hoppers in relief, allowing two unearned runs on four hits, striking out two and walking none in two innings. Jake Bell got the save, coming on in the ninth inning and striking out one. Dustin Tuck started for Hoptown, allowing four runs (three earned) on one hit, striking out two and walking four in three innings. Reese Johnson came on in the fourth inning, allowing one hit and striking out two in two innings. Trevor Blocker pitched the sixth inning, allowing two runs (one earned) on two hits in one inning.

     Caleb Shelley took the loss for the Railroaders, allowing one run on one hit, walking one in one inning. Thomas Huddleston started for Fulton, allowing five runs (four earned) on six hits, striking out three and walking two in 4 1/3 innings. Railroaders 7, Hoppers 2.  (July 10, 2013)  The Railroaders ended Hoptown's six game winning streak beating the Hoppers with a 7-2 score. Second place Fulton regained a game lost the night before.  First place Hoptown is now 2 1/2 games ahead of Fulton who leads the season series between the two at 4-3.  Two games remain between the two teams with one on tomorrow, Thursday, in Hopkinsville.

     The Hoppers took a short lived lead in the first inning off a Brad Sevenish solo homerun  Sevenish led Hoptowns' offense going 3 for 4 and scored both Hopper runs.  Brandon Powell was 2 of 4 and had the RBI driving in Sevenish in the top of the ninth.

     For Fulton; scoring tied the game with one run in the first, and two more runs in the second gave them a 3-1 lead.  The Railroaders extended their lead in the fourth inning when Michael Diaz hit a 3 RBI homer. Diaz was 2 for 5 at the plate with 4 RBI and one score.  The final Fulton score occurred in the fifth as Taylor Douglas hit a solo shot over the left/center wall for his 5th homer on the year. Douglas went 3 for 4, an RBI and one score.

     Starter and winning pitcher Garrett Ring completed eight full innings giving up 6 hits, one run, two walks and had only one strikeout. Ring is now 4-1 on the season.  Brandon Diaz finished off the ninth with two hits allowed, one unearned run and two strikeouts.

     Hoptown starter Cole Isom takes the loss throwing for 5 innings and was hit 10 times for seven runs (one unearned), walked only one and struck out five.  Kyle Barbee for two innings and Jake Bell for one finished the game holding the Railroaders scoreless for the final three innings.  Box scores Click Here.

Bombers 11, Railroaders 9.  (July 9, 2013)  The Railroaders (18-13) fell to the Bombers (15-16) in a close battle throughout their game on Tuesday.  Fulton drops back another game on league leading Hoppers who beat the Pirates, and now ahead 3 1/2 games over the Railroaders. 

     Both teams marked up 12 hits each with Fulton giving up 3 unearned runs and DC allowing 4 unearned.  The Bombers stranded 5 men and the Railroaders left 8 on base.

     The Bombers struck in the first inning scoring 4 off 4 hits, an error and a wild pitch. The Railroaders answered in the second inning with 5 runs from 5 hits, an error plus a wild pitch. Fulton extended their lead by one in the fourth.

     Both teams put up 2 runs in the 5th to bring the score 8-6 in favor of Fulton. The Railroaders' scoring came from a Cody Burton 2 RBI homer who went 2 of 5, had 3 RBI and scored twice.

     The Bombers when to work in the seventh inning blasting over 5 runs.  Andre Davis had a 2 RBI single and Shain Showers added a base clearing 3 RBI double with two outs.  

     Kyle Simmons punched out Fulton's last answered run with a leadoff solo home run in the bottom half of the seventh. Simmons was 3 of 4 on the evening and scored twice.  

     Jonathan Williams earned the win on the mound for DC in relief starter Kyle Briner.  Williams threw for the final 5 innings giving up only 3 hits and 3 earned runs, he walked 3 and had 4 strikeouts.  

     Taking the loss for Fulton Jake Shadix, also in relief, for 1 2/3 innings of work allowing 5 earned runs on 4 hits, walking one and 2 strikeouts. Railroader starter Taylor Douglas labored for 5 innings leaving Fulton ahead by 2 runs.  Ryan Skoubo was called in to hold the Bombers scoreless for the final 2 1/3 innings and did not allow a hit.  Box scores Click Here.

The Railroaders must now face off for 2 games with the Hoppers who are on a 5 game winning streak. With only 14 games left in the regular season, every game becomes important. The season series between the Railroaders and Hoppers stands at 3-3 with 3 games left.  On Wednesday the first will be played in Fulton, and on Thursday another in Hoptown.  The final game between the teams before the post season playoffs, is scheduled for July 20 in Hopkinsville. 

Railroaders 8, Bombers 3.  (July 7, 2013)  (From Dubois County) The Dubois County Bombers (14-16) couldn’t snap a three game losing streak on Sunday night, losing to visiting and 2nd place Fulton Railroaders (18-12,) 8-3, extending the losing streak to four games.

     Bo Ausmus hit a line drive, sac fly in the top of the 1st to give the Bombers the early, 1-0 lead. The Bombers responded again in the 4th. Dane Giesler’s double set up Rick Linton’s RBI single up the middle to put Dubois County ahead, 2-0. It wasn’t until the 5th inning that Fulton got on the scoreboard. That’s when Taylor Douglas decreased the Bombers’ lead to, 2-1.

     The 6th inning was one the Bombers would like to have a mulligan on. Fulton tortured Dubois County for six runs in the inning off four hits, two of those being doubles. It was Ramon Valdez who delivered the big hit for the Railroaders in the inning. A bases clearing, 3 RBI double that just stayed inside the first base bag.

     Fulton added one more run in the 7th, then coasted the rest of the way before dodging a two out rally from the Bombers in the 9th to win, 8-3. Dubois County was out hit in the contest, nine to six and committed more errors than the Railroaders. Fulton committed their only error in the bottom of the 9th to allow the Bombers’ two out rally to stay alive.

     Sean Cunningham started for the winning Railroaders, pitching six innings and giving up two earned runs and striking out three batters in a winning effort. He was relieved by Isaac Behme, Ryan Skoubo, Tyler Saltsman and Tyler Shelley. Shelley worked out of the 9th inning jam to earn the save as the Bombers had bases loaded and the tying run on deck. Connor Strain pitched five innings for Dubois County, taking the loss after giving up six runs, three of which came unearned. Strain struck out five Fulton batters.

     There was not a Bomber to register more than a single hit on the night but the Bombers did manufacture one extra base hit. Dane Giesler hit a RBI double to lead the offense. Hamilton Carr, Kyle Schwinghamer, Eric McKibban, Rick Linton, and Jacob Armstrong rounded out the offense with a single each. Three Fulton players finished the game with two hits, Cody Burton, Matt Skrzypiec and Ramon Valdez. Ramon Valdez also drove home three runs. While Burton, Douglas, Michael Sillyman, and Garret O’Neill each had a RBI for the game.  Box scores Click Here.

Pirates 3, Railroaders 1.  (July 5, 2013)  (From Madisonville)  The Pirates pitchers (14-13) held the Railroaders (17-12) in check at the plate for the night, and Robert Veltre (4-4, 1 HR, 1 RBI), Dathan Prewett (3-4, 2 RBI) and Joe Tipton (3-4, 2 R) provided the power behind the Pirates’ 3-1 victory tonight in Elmer Kelley Stadium.  Madisonville outhit Fulton, eleven to four, in picking up their fourteenth win of the season.

     Madisonville got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second inning on a home run blast from Veltre to right-center.  The Pirates picked up another run in the fifth on an RBI-single by Prewett, driving in Joe Tipton.  Prewett drove in his second run of the night on a ground ball single in the seventh, scoring Tipton gain. 

     The Railroaders scored their only run of the night when Alex Huddleston hit a sacrifice fly to left, driving in Taylor Douglas.  

     For the Pirates, starting and winning pitcher Daniel Sharp pitched five scoreless innings, scattering three, walking two, and striking out seven Railroaders.  Chad Cox came on in relief and pitched the sixth inning, walking one and striking out one. Cox gave way to Trent Benningfield, who pitched two complete innings, allowing one hit, one run (earned) and whiffing three Railroaders.  Samuel Gilbert earned the Save, pitching a scoreless ninth inning to close out the game.  Gilbert registered one walk and one strikeout.  

     Fulton starter Thomas Huddleston took the Loss for the Railroaders, pitching seven complete innings.  Huddleston gave up ten Pirates hits (including the home run by Veltre), three runs (all earned), and picked up five strikeouts.  Sean Cunningham pitched one inning of relief, giving up one hit, one walk, and getting one strikeout.

Railroaders 4, Bobcats 3 .  (July 4, 2013)  In 10 innings. The Railroaders (17-11) narrowing escape with a win over the Bobcats (6-20) on Thursday.  Fulton gains a half game on idle Hoptown and is now one game back of the 1st place Hoppers.

     The only offensive highlight for the Railroaders was a 3 run homer by Michael Sillyman hit in the third inning giving Fulton a 3-0 lead.  The Bobcats scored one unearned run in the fourth inning.  Marion tied the game in the eighth inning with two more unearned runs with no hits and two Railroader errors.

     In the bottom of the tenth reliever Luke MccDonald walked the bases loaded, one intentional, with 2 outs.  On  a 3-1 count to Kyle Simmons at the plate, the next pitch was low and the winning walked in from third.

     The Railroaders put up 11 hits total but stranded 19 runners on base.  The Bobcats only managed 2 hits and left 7 on base.

     Fulton's starter Garret Ring went 8 innings for the 2 hits allowed, tagged for the unearned runs, walked 4 and struck out 8 batters, no decision. Caleb Shelly and Ryan Skoubo each threw for the final two innings with Skoubo earning the win.

     Marion's starter Tyler Simmons managed 5 1/3 innings getting hit 8 times, giving up 3 earned runs, 5 walks and 5 strikeouts.  Luke MacDonald went 4 1/3 and takes the loss.  Box scores Click Here.

Railroaders 3, Bobcats 2.  (July 3, 2013)  The Railroaders keep pace in the standings with a win over the Bobcats, and Hoptown defeats the Oilers.  Fulton's total hits equaled 6 with Jack Henry Jones going 2 for 2 and a RBI, and Michael Diaz was 2 of 4 for the night.  John Lollar takes the win and Caleb Shelly his fifth save on the season. The Railroaders take on the Bobcats again tomorrow at Fulton with a 5:30 pm game start, and fireworks to follow the game.

     (From Marion)  Riding a hot streak, Fulton continued to keep pace with league-leading Hopkinsville Wednesday with a 3-2 victory over the Bobcats at Guess Field.

     The Railroaders took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth only to be answered by the Bobcats in the bottom of the frame. In the sixth, Fulton tacked on two more runs. Marion's offense pushed one across the plate in the bottom of the inning, but that would be all of the scoring on the night, sending the Bobcats to a 6-19 last-place record.
     Fulton, after sitting in fifth place for several days, over the last couple of weeks has pushed ahead of all but Hopkisville, who leads the Railroaders by only 1.5 games.
     Bobcats starter Jackson Miles gave up only an unearned run coming off the only error on the night. Reliever David Herrera took the loss after giving up Fulton's two earned runs in the top of the sixth.
     At the plate, Cody Brown was 2-for-2, scoring both of Marion's runs. Tyler Bonaventure and Brandon Lawing, each 1-for-4, drove in a run apiece to account for all of the Bobcats' scoring. Railroaders 7, Oilers 1 - game 1.  (July 2, 2013)  In 7 innings. After losing on Sunday in Owensboro, the Railroaders (15-11) bounced back on Tuesday by sweeping a doubleheader with the Oilers (12-12) in Fulton.  The wins puts Fulton alone in 2nd place with a one and half game spread between them and 1st place Hoptown, and 3rd place Dubois County. The double loss throws Owensboro into 4th and tied with idle Madisonville.

     In game one the Railroaders jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first inning.  Michael Diaz on third scored when Oilers' pitcher Christian McHatton was called for a balk. Ramon Valdez doubled driving in another run and Kyle Simmons singled for another RBI.

     The only Oilers' score came in the third inning and was unearned.  Cameron Wallace singled and advanced to 2nd on the only Fulton error.  Once in scoring position, Wallace crossed home off a Cody Rogers RBI single.

     Fulton extended their lead in the fifth inning scoring 4 more runs off 4 hits.  It included one run scored off bases loaded and batter hit by a pitch, and a 2 out single by Taylor Stoulp for 2RBI.

     The Railroaders totaled 9 hits, one error, and left 6 on base.  The Oilers got 6 hits, committed 2 errors and also stranded 6 runners.

Railroaders 6, Oilers 3 - game 2.  (July 2, 2013)  In 7 innings.  In the night cap, the Railroaders scored first again in the 2nd inning when Garret O'Neill hit his first home run on the season for 2 RBI. 

     The Oilers scored one in the top of the 4th inning.  After leading off with a single, Tyler Tichenor finally scored after 2 Railroader errors.  Bottom half of the inning, the Railroaders came back with 4 more runs. Matt Skrzpiec lead off with a double and was followed by a RBI single Kyle Simmons.  With two men on and two out, Cody Burton stepped to the plate and hit a 3 RBI homer, his third on the season.

     Owensboro added one run in the 5th and 6th innings to top off their scoring.  Austin Edge had a RBI single in the 5th, and Christian McHatton follow suit in the 6th with a RBI single.

     Both teams had 6 hits each total, and only the Railroaders committing 3 errors in the game.

     Starter Jake Shadix picked up his first win pitching 5 2/3 innings, allowing 6 hits, tag for 3 runs (one earned), 2 walks, and had 6 strikeouts.  Ryan Skoubo earned his second save on the season with 1/13 innings to complete the game.  Owensboro starter Cameron Wallace takes the loss with 4 innings of work, also giving up 6 hits, marked for 6 earned runs, one walk, and 4 strikeouts.  Box scores Click Here.

Oilers 2, Railroaders 0.  (June30, 2013)  (From Owensboro)  The Owensboro Oilers played to their 175th franchise win at home in memorable fashion. The Oilers shutout the visiting Fulton Railroaders on a combined one-hitter-- holding up the 2 to 0 score.
    Owensboro scored one run in their portions of the 4th and 5th innings. In bottom of the 4th inning Logan Leverett led off with a single. Christian McHatton followed with a single, and Cody Rogers bunted his way on safely, loading the bases. Austin Edge delivered a RBI sacrifice fly to score Leverett. At the end of the 4 innings, the home team led by that 1-0 score. In the last of the 5th inning Taylor Matthews walked with one out. Hunter Newman followed with a single and Matthews went to third base. A fly out later. Newman found himself in a rundown between first and second bases, but he extended it long enough for Matthews to score in the meantime. The Oilers led 2-0 and made that lead stand.
    Pitching was the story of the game. The Owensboro starter went 7.67 innings. He recorded three strikeouts and induced two double plays along the way to the win. Edwin Reyes completed the 8th inning, and Brent Elder worked a perfect 9th inning for a save. Michael Sillyman's single in the 2nd inning -- ahead of a double play -- was Fulton's only safety of the game. Railroaders 4, Hoppers 1.  (June 29, 2013)  The Fulton Railroaders (13-10) extended their streak of wins to 8 after defeating the Hoptown Hoppers (15-8), and evened the season series 3-3 between the two teams.  Fulton retained and at present holds sole possession of 2nd in the standings, and now 2 games behind 1st Hoptown. 

     The Railroaders struck first with one run in the 1st with Michael Diaz walking and scoring off a Colton Simbeck double.  Fulton added two more in the 2nd as Taylor Stoulp hit a two out clutch single for 2 RBI. Both teams remained scoreless until 6th when the Railroaders added their fourth run from a lead off solo homer by Michael Diaz.  

     The Hoppers finally scored their only run the 7th inning.  Mitch Huckabay doubled to lead off the innings, was batted to third then scored on a passed ball.  

     Fulton's run production was down from recent games as their 13 totals hits scored only 3 earned runs and stranded 12 men on base.  Hoptown managed 4 hits and left 7 runners on base.  

     Both starters are pitchers of record with Garrett Ring picking up his 3 win, pitching 8 innings with 4 strikeouts, 2 walks and no earned runs.  Kyle Barbee takes the loss for Hoptown for 5 1/3 innings allowing 11 hits, tagged for 4 runs (3 earned), 3 walks and striking out 3 at the plate.  Railroader Caleb Shelly earned his 4th save on the season. Railroaders 15, Hoppers 4.  (June 28, 2013)  (From Hopkinsville)  The Fulton Railroaders kept their six-game win streak going, and the Hoptown Hoppers saw their six-game win streak end, as Fulton bombed the homestanding Hoppers 15-4 on Friday.

     The Railroaders used four home runs to push their win streak to seven games.  Fulton (12-10) won despite making six errors in the field, and Hoptown (15-7) left 12 runners on base.

     Fulton got on the scoreboard first in the top of the third inning when Taylor Douglas reached on a one-out double to right field, went to third on a groundout and scored on a single through the right side by Michael Diaz. Colton Simbeck then stepped up and sent his first pitch over the wall in left-center field to give the Railroaders a 3-0 lead.

     Hoptown responded in the bottom half of the inning when Derek Ferch reached with a one-out walk and Matt McGowan hit a single. Trevor Lowe reached on an error to load the bases, and Ferch scored on a sacrifice fly by Brad Sevenish. Henry Rowland then walked to load the bases, and John Beary drew a walk, scoring McGowan and cutting the Fulton lead to 3-2.

     Fulton responded in the top of the fourth when Matt Skrzypiec led off with a home run. Ramon Valdez reached on an error and Garret O’Neill followed with a single, moving Valdez to third. O’Neill went to second on a wild pitch, and both runners scored on an error on a throw home in a fielder’s choice, giving the Railroaders a 6-2 lead.

     Fulton scored in the top of the fifth inning when Michael Sillyman reached on a dropped third strike, went to second on a passed ball and scored on a single by Ramon Valdez to extend the Railroaders’ lead to 7-2.  Fulton added to its lead in the top of the sixth inning when Douglas led off with a home run, then Cody Burton and Michael Diaz hit back-to-back singles. Michael Sillyman then hit a home run to left field to give the Railroaders an 11-2 lead.

     Fulton plated four runs in the top of the ninth inning when Garret O’Neill led off with a single, Taylor Stoulp walked and Taylor Douglas hit a single to load the bases. Jack Henry Jones hit a sacrifice fly to score O’Neill, and Michael Diaz was hit by a pitch to reload the bases. Colton Simbeck hit a long fly ball to left for an apparent sac fly, but the fielder dropped the ball, enabling Stoulp to score. As the throw was coming to the infield, Simbeck passed Diaz on the bases just behind second base. Simbeck ran back to first base, and a throwing error enabled Douglas to score. Diaz scored on a groundout to give the Railroaders a 15-2 lead.

     Hoptown scored twice in the bottom of the ninth when pinch-hitter Kyle Barbee reached on an error and went to second on a single by Brad Sevenish. A two-out single by John Beary drove them in for the final score of 15-4.

At the plate, Taylor Douglas went 3-for-5 with a home run, a double, three runs scored and one run batted in. Michael Diaz went 2-for-5 with three runs and an RBI, Matt Skrzypiec went 2-for-4 sith a homer, a double, a run and an RBI, and Garret O’Neill went 2-for-5 with two runs. Colton Simbeck and Michael Sillyman also homered for the Railroaders.

Railroaders 11, Bombers 1.  (June 27, 2013)  (From Dubois County)  The Fulton Railroaders scored 5 runs in the 5th to break a, 1-1 tie and take control of the game as they beat the Dubois County Bombers, 11-1 in Huntingburg.  

     Fulton hit Bombers’ starter, Ty Simpson from the very beginning, sending three hard hit balls into the outfield, including a home run that cleared the left field fence. Simpson would calm down, recording three scoreless innings after the first. However, the Bombers found trouble in the 5th as 5 Fulton runs came across off 3 hits and 1 Bombers error. Michael Diaz and Michael Sillyman both had run scoring doubles in the inning. Those 5 runs would be all the Railroaders would need as Dubois County couldn’t score and was held to 3 hits for the game.  

     Ty Simpson worked 6 innings on the mound before giving the ball to Cody Morris. Morris threw an inning and a third and was relieved by Dubois County newcomer Jackson White. White finished the game for the Bombers, throwing the last inning and two thirds while surrendering 1 run. Fulton got an impressive outing from Taylor Douglas, who pitched the first 5 and two thirds for the Railroaders. Douglas, who was able to throw his off-speed for strikes, struck out, 8 Dubois County hitters in the winning effort.  

     Casey Ryan had 2 of Dubois County’s hits, Dane Giesler had the other, hitting a RBI triple in the 2nd. The Bombers now drop to, (10-10) on the season. Fulton, who is riding a six game winning streak is now, (11-10.). Box Scores Click Here.  

Railroaders 12, Bombers 8.  (June 26, 2013)  The Railroaders (10-10) beat the Bombers (10-9) and send Dubois County into third position in the standing.  The win is Fulton fifth straight as they maintain their 4 games back spot in fifth place, while the Bombers fall to 3.5 back. 

     The Bombers took a short lived lead in first inning scoring one run.  The Railroaders exploded in the bottom of the third with 6 runs that included a 3 RBI homer by Ramon Valdez.  The Bombers responded in the 4th with one run and added two more in the 5th with a Bo Ausmus 2 RBI homerun.  Fulton busted out 5 more runs in the sixth inning with a second homer from Ramon Valdez, this time a grand slam.  Valdez finished the evening going 2 for 3 with 7 RBI.

     In the seventh inning, the Bombers fought back and put up three more runs off a Chris Tavares 3 run homer.  The Railroaders added another run in the bottom of the seventh for a 12-7 lead.  DC managed their final score in the ninth with a solo homerun from Bo Ausmas, his second on the evening. Ausmus went 3 for 5, scored four time with 3 RBI total on the night.

     Both starters get the decisions with Isaac Behme earning the win for 5 innings of work on the mound, and Connor Strain takes the loss throwing for only 3 innings.  The two teams go at it again on Thursday in Dubois County. Box Scores Click Here.  

Railroaders 3,  Pirates 2.  (June 25, 2013)  The victory in Madisonville was the Railroaders' 200th franchise win. A Colton Simbeck two run homer was the difference in the game. 

     The Railroaders (9-10) hung on to beat the Pirates (10-9) by a run and pushed Madisonville back in 4th in that standings.  The Pirates took an early one run lead in the 1st inning from a sacrifice fly by Alfredo Bohorquez.  The Railroader tied the game in the 3rd with their own sac flay by Michael Diaz.  Fulton took the lead in the 5th inning when Colton Simbeck hit a 2 RBI homerun.  Tradewater got one run back in the 6th with a Joe Tipton RBI double.  

     Fulton's starter Thomas Huddleston pitched 8 innings for the win giving up all 8 Pirate hits, and walked three batter and struck out three at the plate.  Caleb Shelley picked up his 3 save on the season retiring the side in the 9th with a fly out and two strikeouts.  The loss goes to Health Kelly, his first on the season, who went for 7 innings striking our three, walking two, allowing five hits and all three earned runs. Railroaders 4, Pirates 2.  (June 23, 2013)  The Railroaders (8-10) picked up a third straight win after beating the Pirates ((10-8) on Sunday, and knocks Madisonville down to third in the standings.

     The Pirates scored one in the first inning with a lead off double by Dathan Prewett who reached third on a passed ball then scored from a Garrett Emling single. The Railroaders tied the game in the second with a 2 out RBI single by Cody Burton.  Fulton took a 2-1 lead in the third with a solo home run by Michael Sillyman, his second in only 3 games with the Railroaders. Bottom of the fourth; Taylor Douglas hit a 2 run shot over the wall to extend Fulton's lead by three runs. The Pirates added their final score in the fifth, scoring off one of two Railroader errors on the evening. 

     A solid pitching performance by Fulton's starter Garrett Ring (2-1) going a full 8 innings allowing only 3 hits, tagged for 2 unearned runs, walking 4 and striking out 12 batters.  Caleb Shelley picked up his second save on the season finishing off the ninth.  Taking the loss for Tradewater; Josh Drake threw for 5 innings giving up 9 hits, 4 earned runs, one walk with no strikeouts.

Railroaders 15, Bobcats 0.  (June 22, 2013)  Called for rain after 7 complete innings. (From Marion)  Marion pitching once again got pounded, giving up 15 earned runs to Fulton in seven innings before Mother Nature called mercy, forcing an end to the contest due to rain and lightning. Meantime, the Bobcats offense managed no runs and only two hits—a double by Tyler Odom and a single off the bat of Brooks Ballisterri. It was the worst loss of the year for the Marion, now 4-13 and seven games off the league lead. The win by Fulton (7-10) put three games of daylight between their fifth-place standing and the last-place Bobcats.

     Aaron King, starter for the Bobcats, gave up 11 runs in 3 1/3 innings, taking the loss. Reliever Blane Alvey gave up four more runs in 3 2/3 innings. All 15 runs were earned despite Marion's 16th game with at least one error.

     Fulton managed 12 hits off Marion pitching and coaxed 10 walks. They had only four extra base hits, all doubles. Matt Skrzypiec for the Railroaders was 4-for-4 with five RBI and three runs scored.  Box Scores Click Here.

Railroaders 12, Bobcats 8.  (June 21, 2013)  The Railroaders (6-10) broke a four game losing streak beating the Bobcats (4-12), and avoided a repeat of a 5-11 start from last season. 

     Both teams scored a single run in the first inning.  Bottom of the 2nd, the Railroaders busted out scoring 6 runs off 3 homers and a Bobcat error.  Marion came back in the 3rd with two runs, and added three in the 4th with a 3 RBI homerun of their own. With the score 7-6 in Fulton's favor, the Railroaders answered in the bottom half of the 4th extending their lead with 3 more runs.  The Bobcats clawed they way back putting up single runs in both the 6th and 7th innings. Ahead 10-8, the Railroaders chalked up 2 more insurance runs in the bottom of the 8th for the final 12-8 score.

    The four total homeruns on the evening were produced by; Taylor Douglas with a 2 run shot (3 total RBI), and Fulton newcomers Ramon Valdez (solo) and Michael Sillyman for 2 runs (4 of 5, 3 total RBI & 2 scores), and for Marion Cody Brown blasted a 3 RBI homerun and went 2 of 3 with 3 runs scored.

     Railroader starter Ryan Skoubo only lasted 3 1/3 innings giving up 6 earned runs on 6 hits, one walk and 2 strikeouts. First reliever Brandon Diaz gets the win for pitching 1 2/3 innings allowing only one hit and walk, striking out 4 batters and no runs scored. Sean Cunningham threw for 2 innings giving up 3 hits, tagged for 2 runs (one earned), a walk and 3 strikeouts.  Caleb Shelly finished the last two innings and earned a save coming into the game with a 2 run lead.

     The Bobcat starter Blake Thomas is tagged for the loss on the mound for 1 2/3 innings, and responsible for 7 runs (5 earned), 2 walks, a strikeout and 6 hits that included all 3 Fulton homeruns.  Tony Anello also went 1 2/3 innings in middle relief, with Dylan Stewart finished the final 4 6/7 innings for Marion.

     The two teams meet again on Saturday in Marion for a second game.  Both teams remain at the bottom in the standings with Fulton staying 4.5 games out of first, and Marion dropping a game to 6.5 back.  Box Scores Click Here.

Oilers 2, Railroaders 1.  (June 20, 2013)  (From Owensboro) The Owensboro Oilers won the Thursday night home game, edging the visiting Fulton Railroaders by the final score of 2 to 1.
     The Oilers scored one run in the bottom of the 3rd inning. Cameron Wallace led off with a single. Wallace moved to second base on a sacrifice bunt, and to third base on a groundout. He scored as Tyler Tichenor reached on an error.
     The game -- defined by pitching and missed offensive opportunities -- continued 1-0 for Owensboro until Fulton put together its run in the top of the 9th inning. With one out, Cody Burton and Taylor Stoulp singled back to back. Colton Simbeck was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Fulton newcomer Michael Sillyman reached on a RBI fielder's choice that scored Burton, but put Simbeck out at second base. A strike out ended the rally, but the game was tied 1-1.
     The Oilers prevailed with one run in the bottom of the 9th inning. Brent Carmichael led off with a walk. He moved to second base on a sacrifice bunt. A fly out later, Christian McHatton knocked a RBI single past the oustretched shortstop and the speedy Carmichael scored from second base.
     Owensboro reliever Kellon Hibbard -- who came in with a save in mind -- became the winner instead. The Fulton starter, Isaac Behme went the entire 8.67 innings on the mound for the Railroaders, and surrendered only three hits, but got the loss. Box Scores Click Here.

Hoppers 2, Railroaders 1.  (June 18, 2013)  In 10 innings. (From Hopkinsville)  The Hoptown Hoppers hosted the Fulton Railroaders on Tuesday. Pitcher Justin Hageman started on the mound for the Hoppers, retiring ten batters in five innings.

     The Railroaders got up on the scoreboard first when Michael Diaz slammed a solo homer over right field in the top of the third.

     The Hoppers leveled the score at one a piece in the bottom of the sixth inning when Zach Carter drove in Matt McGowan from third off of a line drive double.

The Hoppers and Railroaders swapped hits back and forth through out the game with ten and eight hits, respectively.

     The game ventured into extra innings, but in the bottom of the tenth Mitch Huckabay stole home while the pitcher wasn’t looking to get the win for the Hoppers.

     Mitch Huckabay, Matt McGowan, Mason Colquitt, John Beary, Zach Carter, and Clayton Evans all had hits for the Hoppers. Cody Burton, Taylor Stoulp, Kyle Simmons, Taylor Douglas, and Michael Diaz had hits for the Railroaders.

Oilers 4, Railroaders 2.  (June 16, 2013) The Oilers' (7-5) first inning 3 RBI singles were enough to beat the Railroaders (5-8) in Owensboro on Sunday, but they added one more run in the 5th. Fulton managed one run in the 6th and 9th innings. Taylor Grisham got the win pitching 6 innings striking out 6, walking 1, giving up 3 hits and one unearned run. Kellon Hibbard picked up a save throwing the final inning.  Garrett Ring takes the loss also going for 6 innings striking out 7, walking 3, allowing 6 hits and all 4 runs (3 earned). Hoppers 9, Railroaders 7.  (June 15, 2013) The Railroaders (5-7) played catch up with the Hoppers (7-5) to only fall short by 2 runs. Hoptown jump out to a 4 run lead in the 1st inning with the Railroaders answering with 2 in the bottom half of the first. The Hoppers put another run across in the 3rd as well as the Railroaders in the latter half of the inning.  Hoptown took a 7-3 lead in the 5th inning scoring two more. Fulton tied the game up in the 7th with a pair of homeruns yielding 4 runs. The Hoppers squeezed 2 more in the 8th inning for the final 9-7 win for Hoptown.

     Four Railroader errors resulted in 4 unearned runs for Hoptown and was the difference in the game. The Hoppers committed 2 errors but only allowed one unearned run.

     Middle reliever Geordie Carlson gets the win for Hoptown for 2 innings of work, and Ryne Long picked up a save to close out the final inning. Sean Cunningham takes the hard loss in middle relief going 3 1/3 innings on the mound.

     Both teams got 10 hits each as well as 7 each RBI.  For the Hoppers; John Beary, Brandon Boggetto, and Derek Ferch each got 2 hits with one RBI and scored once. Railroaders 10, Bombers 5.  (June 14, 2013) The Railroaders (5-6) got their first season win over the Bombers (7-5) in the 4th meeting between the two clubs. Fulton jumped out to an early 4-0 lead after the first inning of play. The Bombers put up their first run in the 3rd inning, adding three more in the 4th to tie the game 4-4.  Dubois County took the lead in the 6th inning scoring one, only to see Fulton tie it back up off a solo homerun by Colton Simbeck to leadoff the bottom half of the inning.  

     The game remained tied until the bottom of the 8th when Evan Smith (3 of 5 and 3 RBI) singled and drove in the game winning RBI from 3rd base with the bases loaded. Taylor Douglas followed at the plate and hit the second pitch over the center field wall for a grand slam, and topped off the final score 10-5. The Railroaders totaled 15 hits, stranded 13 runners and had 2 errors.

     For the Dubois County; Hamilton Carr accounted for two of the Bombers' 6 total hits, and Casey Ryan (1 of 5) had 2 RBI. The Bombers left 9 on base and also had 2 errors on the evening.

     No decision for both starters; Brandon Diaz for Fulton went 3 2/3 innings allowing 3 hits, striking out 5, walking 3 and tagged for 4 unearned runs, and Ty Simpson threw for 6 innings, gave up 12 hits, struck out 8, walked one and 5 runs scored (4 earned). Bombers 2, Railroaders 1 in 10 innings.  (June 13, 2013) (From Dubois County) The Bombers (7-4) and the Railroaders (4-6) met for a game at League Stadium in Indiana. Nine innings would not be enough as the Bombers ended the game in the 10th inning on Bo Ausmus’ RBI single down the third baseline to win, 2-1 in 10 innings.

       Hits were hard to come by in this OVL game, Bombers starter Connor Strain pitched the first seven innings giving up only one hit and striking out six Fulton batters. Fulton starter Thomas Huddleston was also pretty dominant, scattering four hits over seven and a third innings and striking out eight. Huddleston gave up a RBI single to Kyle Schwinghamer in the 5th inning.

            With the Bombers leading, 1-0 in the 8th, Fulton tied the game on a RBI single from Hunter Owen. Both teams would fail to score in the 9th but in the 10th Fulton got the leadoff man on base but the very next batter would ground into a 6-4-3 double play, killing the inning. Railroaders 12, Pirates 0.  (June 12, 2013) The Railroaders (4-5) got a shutout win over the Pirates (5-3) off superb pitching by Isaac Behme who went a full 9 innings on the mound.  Behme gave up a single to start the game then shut down 25 batters in a roll before allowing 3 final Pirates hits in the ninth. Behme struck out 6 and no walks, and was backed by great defensive and error free play.

     Fulton’s offense matched the effort on the mound banging out 15 hits that included homeruns by Cody Burton (2 RBI), Sake Shadix (2 RBI), and Josh Bynum.  At the plate; Taylor Douglas was best going 3 for 4, 3 RBI and one score, followed by Hunter Owen 3 for 3 and scoring twice.

     Pirate starter Robert Barth threw for 5 2/3 innings giving up 13 hits, tagged for 8 runs (7 earned), with only one walk and no strikeouts.  Three Pirate relievers faired better only allowing 2 hits, but too little too late for Tradewater to recover. Pirates 7, Railroaders 6.  (June 11, 2013) (From Madisonville)  The Pirates defeated the Fulton Railroaders (3-5)by the score of 7-6 in 10 innings!  The win runs the Pirates’ record to 5-2 and into sole possession of first place in the current OVL standings.  Box Scores Click Here.

Railroaders 8, Bobcats 4.  (June 9, 2013) After an hour delay in starting the game due to weather, the Railroaders (3-4) and Bobcats (2-5) played their second game together in as many nights. Both teams scored a run each in the 1st inning and the game remained tied until the 5th. Alex Huddleston led off the bottom of the inning for Fulton and jumped on the pitch to hit a homerun over the right center field wall. The Railroaders added 3 more runs in the 7th and 8th innings to give Fulton a command 8-1 lead. The Bobcats rallied in the 9th to put up 3 runs, but effort was too little, too late.

     Four Railroaders got 2 hits each; Kyle Simmons 2 for 4 and 3 RBI, Cody Burton was 2 for 3, a RBI and scored twice, Hunter Owen 2 for 3 and 2 runs scored, Alex Huddleston 2 for 2, scored 3 with 2 RBI.  Matt Skrzypiec was 1 for 4 and had 2 RBI.

     Three Bobcats also made the 2 hits list; Luke Pearce was 2 for 4 and one RBI, Wes Evers went 2 for 4 and scored once, and Jarrett Rice 2 for 4, a RBI and run scored.

     Starting pitcher John Lollar takes the win for Fulton going 5 innings allowing 3 hits, one earned run, 3 walks and struck out 5.  The loss goes to David Herrera who threw for 6 innings tagged for 4 hits, 2 earned runs.  Herrera walked 4 and had 5 strikeouts.  Box Scores Click Here.

Bobcats 9, Railroaders 3.  (June 8, 2013) The Railroaders got 10 hits, twice as many as the Bobcats who got 5 hits. The difference in the game results in Fulton stranding 15 men on base while the Marion left 9 runners on base. Railroaders 4, Oilers 2.  (June 7, 2013)  The Railroaders (2-3) got their first win at home on Friday against the Oilers (2-3). Fulton scored 2 in first inning from three hits, a double and 2 singles. Owensboro tied the game up at 2 each in the third inning using a RBI on a fielder's choice and RBI double. Bottom of the fourth inning; the Railroaders picked up 2 more runs scoring off a passed ball and a sacrifice bunt with a running on third.

     Fulton totaled 9 hits, stranded 10 on base and had one error. Owensboro picked up 6 hits, left 8 runners on base and committed 2 errors.

     For Fulton; Taylor Douglas had 2 RBI and was 2 of 4 with a double, Hunter Owen went 2 for 2 with 2 RBI and one scored. Both Colton Simbeck and Matt Skrzpiec contributed doubles to the effort.  For Owensboro; Cody Rogers and Hunter Newman both were 2 for 4 with a RBI double for Newman. Tyler Tichenor was 1 of 4 with a RBI and run scored.

     Starter Thomas Huddleston earned his first win going 6 innings allowing 5 hits with 2 earned runs, and struck out 7 only giving up 2 walks.  Cable Shelley and John Lollar each pitched one inning in relief, and Colin Hatch closed out the 9th inning to earn a save. Hoppers 5, Railroaders 2.  (June 5, 2013)  The Hoptown Hoppers (1-2) won their first game in Fulton against the Railroaders (1-3). A great pitching effort from starter Riley Sanderson throwing 8 innings of scoreless ball allowing only one hit, one walk one and striking out 7 batters. Isaac Behme takes the loss for Fulton going 6 1/3 innings giving up 8 hits, 3 runs (2 earned), walking 2 and striking out 2 batters.

     Brandon Powell topped the Hoptown offense going 2 for 4 and 3 RBI followed by John Beary 2 of 4 and scoring twice.  The Railroaders scored their only 2 runs in the bottom of 9th inning as a late rally brought the tying run to the plate.  With 2 out and 2 on base, Hopper closer Jake Bell finished off Fulton to seal the win. Railroaders 4, Hoppers 0.  (June 4, 2013)  (From Hopkinsville) The Fulton Railroaders broke open a scoreless tie in the fifth inning with back-to-back-to-back doubles and used solid pitching to maintain the shutout over the Hoptown Hoppers 4-0 Tuesday night.

     Fulton (1-2) got on the scoreboard in the fifth inning when the Railroaders got two-out doubles from Taylor Douglas, Cody Burton and Kyle Simmons, and Matt Skrzpiec reached on a two-base error to give Fulton a 3-0 lead.

     The Railroaders spotted a run in the ninth inning when Colton Simbeck reached on an error, stole second, took third on a passed ball and scored on a bunt single by Taylor Stoulp. Fulton had five batters with one hit each. Stoulp and Josh Bynum each had singles for the Railroaders. 

     For Hopkinsville (0-2), Matt McGowan, Derek Ferch, Ryne Long, Kyle Barbee and Brandon Boggetto each had singles.

     On the mound, Garrett Ring got the win for Fulton , allowing no runs on five hits, striking out eight and walking two in 8 2/3 innings. Brandon Diaz pitched in the ninth, and Caleb Shelley closed the game, striking out one. 

     For the Hoppers, Cole Isom took the loss, allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits, striking out seven and walking two in 4 2/3 innings. Trevor Blocker came on in the fifth, striking out two in 2 2/3 innings. Dustin Tuck pitched the eighth inning, allowing one unearned run on no hits and two walks, and Barbee pitched the ninth inning, allowing one hit and striking out one. Box Scores Click Here.

Bombers 7, Railroaders 2 .  (June 3, 2013)  At Fulton KY. The DC Bombers handed the Railroaders a second loss to begin the season.  The Railroader took a 1-0 lead in the first innings, then saw the Bombers tie it up in the 4th.  The Bombers punched up 4 more runs in the 5th inning to take a commanding 5-1 lead. Fulton managed their second run in the 7th.  Dubois County sealed the extended their lead in 9th putting up two more run for the final 6-2 score. The Bombers totaled 10 hits, 2 errors and stranded 4 on base, the Railroaders managed 7 hits, an error and left 7 runners on base.  Bomber starter Ty Simpson picked up the win going 6 innings striking out 7 and walking 2 batters, with no earned runs allowed.  Jake Shadix takes the loss for Fulton going 4 2/3 inni)ngs with 4 strikeouts, 2 walks and allowed 4 earned runs.  Box Scores Click Here.

     The Railroaders head to Hoptown on Tuesday to take on the Hoppers in their home opener.  The Hoppers will come to Fulton on Wednesday to face off with the Railroaders at home, game time is 7 pm.

Bombers 7, Railroaders 5.  (June 2, 2013)  In Huntingburg IN. The Bombers debut in the OVL resulted in a home win against the Railroaders.  The closely battled game tied at 4 after four innings until the top of seventh inning.   The Railroaders scored one run to take a 5-4 lead taking advantage of the only Bomber error in the game.  The Bombers failed to score in the bottom of the half of the seventh but went to work in the eighth inning.  After the lead off batter reach on single, former Railroader Rick Linton stepped in and knocked a 2 RBI homerun that hit the left field scoreboard.  The Bomber finished the inning adding another run on a wild pitch.   Dubois County sent closer Clint Chestnut in to finish off Fulton ’s final three batters in the ninth.  Johnathan Williams picks up the win in relief for Dubois County and Chestnut a save. Sean Cunningham takes the rough loss.

     Offensively the game saw 8 total stolen bases with 17 hits (Bombers 10, Railroaders 7).  Both teams sent 32 batters to the plate and each had 5 RBI.  A great game for begin the season.  The two teams meet again on Monday in Fulton to make up Saturday’s rainout.  Time of first pitch is 7:05 pm.  Box Scores Click Here.
